Laura Kingswood
is a visual artist based in the West Highlands of Scotland. She takes inspiration from the stunning surrounding scenery and her background in fine art and textiles.
Growing up in the small coastal village of Arisaig, with its beautiful beaches, she was informed by the play of light and upon the sea looking out over the Small Isles and Skye. Having travelled to study, work and explore the world, she returned to Lochaber to settle in the foothills of Ben Nevis, where she paints in view of the mountains, lochs and the changing seasons of the rural landscape.
Laura Kingswood studied Fine Art (BA honours) at Northumbria University in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and went on to complete her Masters at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2002. During this time, she also worked at Camden Arts Centre and White Cube Gallery and, after graduating, went on to work for YBA Damien Hirst.
On her return to the Highlands she was Artist-in-residence at the original Room 13 studio in Caol, Fort William for 4 years. Working with children was to proved highly influential in terms of engagement with community art projects and the gaining of a professional teaching qualification in 2010. She is now kept busy by both her own artwork, and her two young boys, who also love to draw and paint.
